Free Responses:
When our tutors were asked the following questions, this is how they responded:
- Hobbies:
- On the physical side, I enjoy skating and walking; on the mental side, I love to write, debate, play word games, and learn new things. I enjoy studying behavioral science.
Why do you want to be a tutor?
- I love teaching and I love kids. Because of my current obligations to my family I don't have the proper time to devote to a full-time classroom job. I would to be able to use my tutoring experience to begin to develop my own curriculum based on California content standards in order to change education for the better.
Why should a student pick you?
- My former students would all tell you that I am the funnest teacher they have had.
I have experience working with most learning styles. I have had many students with ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and various other 'wiring glitches' that can make learning a challenge. I have also had many students who were super-bright and needed to be challenged beyond the regular curriculum.
I hold three California credentials: a multiple subject credential, a single subject credential in biology, and a single subject credential in social sciences.
Personal Statement:
- I believe that no matter who the student is that ALL students have 'special needs'. Some just need to be shown how fascinating and fun education and learning are; others need to be inspired to move beyond the basic coursework in order to reach their potential, and yet others just need to be given the support and time they need to process the information they are learning in order to be successful.
Any Last Words?
- Education should be such that what is offered is seen as a precious gift and not hard duty. (Albert Einstein)
